Women shooters? Who are ya and what/how do you carry?
I carry a S&W .38 strong side kidney every day. At one time I thought when I became more proficient with my .45 (Kimber Ultra Carry II), I'd start carrying it instead, but I've been talked into relying on the revolver...no miss-fires...just keep pulling that trigger.
How bout all you other XX chromosome types?

Hi there Jetgirl. I don't carry, but I do have two sidearms. I have a Ruger Mark II Government 6 7/8" heavy tapered barrel and a Bulgarian Makarov in 9X18 that is a pleasure to shoot, great carry size.

Just a note about that Kimber... I *am* looking to change the grips to make it slimmer because the slide release is a hard stretch for me. If there are women looking for handguns who don't know what to really look for, I suggest going to a range that rents pistols and try EVERYthing. Worst case scenario: go to the local gunshop and ask to handle EVERYthing. (But please don't dry fire without asking - bad form) What to look for: Center of balance; you want most of the weight to be in your palm, not in the barrel dipping your hand forward. This can cause limp wristing from recoil when firing - which causes jams in finicky firearms. The reach; You want a comfortable reach to the slide release, the safety, and the mag release (in autos). I'm searching for some grips to slim down my 1911 because my hands are littler than the distance I need to reach, which feels awkward because I have to slide my hand around to tag it. I'd rather not move my hand and just be able to hit it by staying in the same place. The recoil; The general rule for similar material (steel/plastics/aluminum) is "the higher the caliber, the harder the kick" That may be true to a point, but there are other factors to consider. Don't pass up a .45 because the thought of recoil puts you off. If the gun is constructed of a heavy material, and the barrel is longer, and the ammo isn't a hot load, that gun can be a kitten. The lightest alloy is Titanium. My .38 is a Titanium 3 inch barrel that (when loaded with a hotter ammo) kicks way more than my .45. You just have to try everything. My strongest advice if you're getting (or already have a concealed carry permit) is: Carry on your body! Carry on your body! (Bet nobody here saw *that* coming)

Well I am not a "pistol packin'mama" but I am a pistol packin' great grand dad, my constant companion is a Kimber Compact Custom full of 230 grain hollow points along with 2 extra magazines. Orlando Florida, where I live is becoming a dangerous place to live, 36 murders this year so far and only 25 in all of last year. I survived 3 tours of duty in Viet Nam and don't intend to become a statistic in my "old age" (HAHAHA) I believe it is better to be judged by 12 than to be carried by 6. With that said I am headed for the range with my youngest grandson in tow for a few hundred rounds of fun and enjoyment. Woody

Jet Girl if there were not so much realestate between us I have two Full size 1911 with hand checkered front straps and slimline grips on them you could try out, they feel great as I have short fingers. My stepson who has large hands say they feel like stick guns in his hands. But you would be amazed at how much girth they remove from a 1911.

I don't really have an explainable reason other than I haven't gotten around to getting the permit. Now, some months back we were having problems at the store with vandalism and car break-ins and several doors down there is a night club where a fatal shooting took place and for several months I did carry my Makarov loaded with Hornady 95 gr JHP/XTP. Definitely the fodder that would ruin somebody's day to get hit with. The Makarov is really comfortable, dependable and about the same size as the Walther PPK.

Personally, in today's society ...I think every female should carry. It evens out the odds with an attacker. I don't care what the feminist movement says, when it comes right down to it men have more upper body strength than women. It's just a fact. A stopping tool in our hands takes all the power out of theirs. Stay safe Charlotte Doll.
