Fishermen/Fisherwomen: - Please share what species of fish is your fav. to fish for. - What's your favorite bait (lure, jig, etc.) to catch em' with? - How do you like to eat them (smoked, BBQ'd, fried, etc.)? - Do you practice catch and release or do ya keep your fish? - Any fishing stories? You can decide to answer all or none of the questions above. My favorite fish is the largemouth bass followed by channel cat. My fav. jig to use on bass is called the Z-Too. It looks kinda like a slug w/ a green colored back and a white belly. My record LM was 20.25" while on a float tube. As for catfish, I use what's called 'Catfish Dynamite'. They love that stuff. My record for cat was 34" off shore on the Snake River. I let that one go though. I think channel cat are best when filleted and slapped on the grill. I try to always practice catch and release unless I know for sure that the fish won't survive if I let it go. Well, let's hear them stories

Used to fish many years ago for walleye and crappie. Now I would like to fly fish for trout, but only get to Colorado once or twice a year. Then I don't get around to practicing my casts before hand like I should. Usually after a day or two, I give up after spending a bunch of money for a license and the "fly of the week". Have a couple of really nice rods I should put on eBay and forget about it. Anybody need a nice 6 1/2' Phillipson or Orvis fiberglass?

Lake Erie walleyes and perch Picture from 2 years ago. Bottom bouncers with crawler harness Fried No, we eat em. I like the just legal size best. My youngest son and I went out a couple weeks ago and he had his and my limit of Walleyes in about 4 hours (camera batteries were dead though). By the way, he did let me catch a few sheephead (we call them sh..heads) and whitebass. It's been a good year on Erie although I haven't fished as much as I'd like too.

grandparem,
The old Orvis Full Flex and Phillipson glass rods are in demand these days (along with the usual Russ Peak, et al). There's even a glass rod forum... Folks are paying good money for old JW Youngs and Medalists.
Small stream fishing for wild trout with a fly rod is my favorite form of fishing. But ultralight spinning comes in a close second....
Best, JB

I fish almost exclusively rivers and streams, smallies are my favorite but I will, and do fish for dang near anything. Like JB I love wild trout streams with a fly rod. I have a local flow that I am on almost every week end, it is nothing special but I have caught several bass in the 2 to 3 pound range and on my light gear in a current that is a blast. My son and his best friend have their gear together and are wade fishing it this morning, I sure wish I still got summers off. I practice catch and release 95% of the time, I will keep a mess of catfish, bluegill or crappy though. I view killing bass the same way as killing songbirds, the only way I keep bass is if I am fishing somewhere with a slot limit and certain sized fish need to be culled to improve the fishery. Chris

Nice looking water Chris. I have a buddy that's been wanting me to fish the Little River Canyon National Preserve in Northeast Alabama. Beautiful area and stream, with plenty of Redeyes. Just right for ultralight spinning and fly rods.

That's funny JB the river in the picture is named the little river, I think every state has several rivers by that name. If you go fish that river take pics and let us know how it is. Here is another pic of my river.

Down on the Flint there are lots of them, they are having some property disputes right now and I think parts of the river are closed to fishing though.

Clarks Hill is way down too, I don't fish too many big lakes but I do occasionally for catfish. I found a real good place for catfish here in NC but it is about an hour and a half drive.
