I'm crushed. I loved this guy. We all think we're going to live forever until our children are born. Apparently Steve missed that. This just ruined my day. Without a doubt he was near the top of my list of all time favorite personalities. In retrospect, I'm surprised it didn't happen sooner. Two shows come to mind where he could have most easily been killed are the episode where he was chased up a tree by a komodo dragon that actually bit the heel of his shoe, and the one on the 10 deadliest snakes where he got his face within a few inches of the deadliest snake in the world while hundreds of miles from civilization. What a guy and what a sweetheart. RIP Steve

He was one of a kind and I don't see how anyone couldn't like the guy. I think risky behavior is a bit selfish for a father with two small children. I am sorry that his wife (from Wisconsin) now has to bring up two children alone.

He will be missed, but with some of the risks those people take for "entertainment", it was inevitable that it would catch up with one sometime. Jeff Corwin is another that will "get it" playing with poisoness snakes. It seems they have this "need" to get closer and closer to make good TV.
I just lost a brother about 2 1/2 weeks ago in a motorcycle accident in Iowa. He was not wearing his helmet and the irony of this is that my other brother, at the time of the accident, was at a meeting of a group that pushes for looser helmet laws. BTW, the autopsy conclusion was that he died of "severe head trauma".
Now, I'm not going to go out and lobby for stricter helmet laws any more than I am for maintaining a safe distance from wild animals, but I believe where there is an increased element of risk and "sh** happens", it's the surviving family and friends that suffer most. When my niece walks down the isle to get married next April, on her brother's arm instead of her dad's, she will be the one suffering the most.
Didn't intend to "highjack" the Steve Irwin thread, but when I got started, I had to get it off my chest.
