I sadly admit my 10/22 magnum has been sitting in the safe almost a year now without being shot. So (after finding ten boxes of dynapoint .22 magnum ammo I had hidden away) I grabbed her out of the safe and took her to the range this weekend.
At first I was in a state of panic, discovering she did not have a mag release! Then I found an extended one and slapped it in from a bag of old parts in my trunk.
Outside of a trigger kit, the only mod to this little honey is the removed barrel band. and scope add-on.
I started shooting and was amazed at how accurate it was...blasting dime sized dirt balls over and over again at 50 meters, then adjusting for drop and nailing the 200 meter small 6 inch gongs.
After a while I realized why I had not shot it in so long...it was so easy to hit anything I aimed at..It actually got pretty boring!
I think I will be taking it back next weekend and floating some "moving targets" in the drainage canals to shoot at..that will add a little bit more fun!
Wooo Hooo! ;D

Mine amazes me every time I shoot it. And much like yours, I have only done a few minor upgrades. Is yours a single extractor model or a double? And if you don't mind, what all does a guy have to do to remove the barrel band permanently? Can a person do this themselves, or is it kind of an involved process?

Both my Ruger Magnums wear OEM barrels (though the one on my 10/17M is a 96/17 barrel), and both still run with their original extractor... the only "mods" were VQ hammers and Hogue OM stocks (I just really dislike the curved plastic butt plates on the originals).
Both are much more accurate than I can consistently hold.

I recently got the WeaponKraft performance package and installed it in mine. I had not been having problems but after reading some of the info over at RFC decided that the recoil buffer (if you can call a steel rod a buffer) would be a good idea. Well then started looking at the WeaponKraft page and decided for that for that small amount of money I might as well get the whole package.
The barrel band? I think it'd need to be turned off on a lathe and reblued. I got tired of the front sight hanging up in the gun case and on brush so I took a friggin grinder and ground the thing off. Filed it down and hit it with some emery cloth and cold blued it. So call me a caveman ;D a factory barrel isn't worth much anywho.
