Okay, don't laugh at me but when did winchester change their jhp version of the 22 mag?? The older stuff I had was all covered by jacket material, the newer stuff I just bought has some exposed lead on the tip.Am I crazy or what???

Only stuff I've ever seen is the exposed led that you speak of.

Upon thinking about what you posted I have a question.
Do you maybe have the winchester 34 grain HP and the 40 grain mixed up?
The 34 grain hp has to led at the tip with the jacket going all the way to the top.
The 40 grain hp is jacketed about 3/4 of the way to the top with a small area of led exposed at the tip.

Wish I had not shot all of them now, the old ones I had were 40gr jhp and look pretty close to the current cci 40gr jhp. When I bought this last batch of winchester 40gr jhp, I was shocked when I opened it and found the exposed lead at the tip. Oh well maybe I should not have drank that mushroom tea!!!! Just kidding
