Above is the .22 LR Handgun I use to compete in Rimfire Bench Rest Matches at a local indoor Shooting Range in the winter months.
It is an Original Stainless-Steel T/C Contender Frame (not the newer G2 version). The Trigger on this frame has been worked over complete with new springs and breaks like a glass rod at 1 1/4 pounds.
The Barrel is a T/C Stainless-Steel Super 14" Factory .22 LR Match Barrel. This barrel is the most accurate .22 LR I have ever had the pleasure of shooting.
On top sits a 3x12x32mm Burris LER Handgun Scope with an Adjustable Objective that has been modified for me by Burris to totally eliminate parallax at the 18 yards of our Indoor Shooting Range. It has a Fine Plex Reticle with Target Turrets.
We generally have 6 to 10 shooters compete in our Indoor Bench Rest Competitions each year. This consists of 6 scores for record on a USBR Target from December through March each year. I try to shoot once a week and generally waiste my best scores on practice targets (go figure).
I have never won our local league, but have finished 3rd several times. Last year was the closest year ever, I missed out of getting first place for the year by 2 points and missed out of getting second place by 1 point (total for the year is 1500-150X).
The biggest problem I face in shooting Indoor Bench Rest is dealing with the artificial lighting. Artificial lighting and scopes are tricky at best. Another problem is dealing with parallax at these short distances, but with the modifications Burris did to my Adjustable Objective that isn't a concern anylonger.
The last problem is the 12X Handgun Scope. I sure could use more X's at times. I have tried the Rifle Scope thing on my Contender but just never did get used to shooting a Handgun with a Rifle Scope on it.
The good thing about this game is there is always room for improvement.
Thanks for reading.
