Mine was an old remington 552 speedmaster, I used to love shooting those tonguenuts out of the trees or even the pecan hulls of course my grandmother used to pay me 25 cents a crow, it kept me in shells.

Mine was a single shot Remington; when we turned 13 we had our choice of a single shot .410 or .22 ; I picked the .22. I got to go with my dad to the pawn shop to pick it out. I used to shoot missle-toe out of trees around Thanksgiven and Christmas. kirby001

my first one wasnt even mine, but i loved it back then. it was a remington semiauto too, not sure of the model number, but maybe 550 or 551, it had a one piece stock and would shoot s l and lr mixed any way you loaded em.
it had a little weaver variable that seems like was about the diameter of my middle finger.
it was a magical secret weapon compared to the pellet guns and shotguns id shot before it.
my first rifle squirrel kills were with this gun, i still remember the very first one i ever shot with a rifle.
as i got older and had shot more accurate rifles, my interest in it fell off, but it served me well my first year hunting with a rifle.

Mine was a Remington 550-1 , my dad bought it or traded for it used in the late 50s. It is one of the guns that did not get stolen in 1980 with 98% of all my guns. I still like to shoot it occasionally.
It will hold a boatload of 22 Shorts....the original chipmunk assault rifle ;D

Scotty... that would have been a 550 or 550-1.
Mine was a J.C. Higgins 29 made by High Standard... still have it. I bought it for $20 from an aunt after we skipped work one day to go squirrel hunting. I was just out of HS, living with them, and working as a "gopher" for a car dealer in Cedar Rapids, Ia at the time. Another story about the rifle... Our club decided to have a 100 yd. "semi-auto only" class at a match a couple of years ago. At the time the only s/a that I could mount a scope on was the Higgins. I had an extra 24X laying around so, as a "kind of a lark", I decided what the heck?? About 9 or 10 guys shot the class, including 4 or 5 of "your high dollar, modded 10/22s". When I accepted the first place plaque, I confessed that I had probably taken unfair advantage of the Rugers by bringing out the old JC Higgins. When I sighted it in for that match, it was the first time in about 20 years I'd had it out of the house. It still looks good and functions perfectly.

My first Rimfire---Remember I an older than Dirt-- A Remington model 6 with a rolling block, made in 1906 best I could tell. It was a gift from my step granddad when I was about 8. I shot god knows how many rounds through it. I passed it to one of my sons, and told him not to sell it but pass it to one of his kids. I can only hope he does. Jim

First was a Stevens 15B, next was a Grade I Belgian Browning .22 Auto in '67. I still own both of them. The Browning has killed a freight car load of squirrels.

My first rimfire that I shot was a Remington Nylon 66 at the age of 5 or 6. The first gun I bought was a CZ452 at the age of 12.

My first was a Remington 514, single shot in 1951 I think. It led to the demise of an untold number of critters in its day, I gave it to a friend of mine for his son in 1956 when I enlisted in the Navy, that was a looooooooong time ago. Woody :

My first rifle was a .22 semi-auto tube repeater. I had saved up some money from working my paper route and I asked Dad if I could buy a .22. He said he would think about it. He came home from work the next day with the rifle. A friend at work had put it up for sale and he told Dad to take it home and let me look it over. I liked it and handed Pop my hard earned cash.
He had figured I would want it and he had stopped and bought me a box of Winchester Super X Longs (not long rifles). We went out to the woods later in the week and tried it out. It shot well. I purchased one of the little 7/8s inch tube Weaver D4 scopes for it and killed my first squirrel with that rifle the next Fall.
The rifle was a Savage that was marketed under their econo line under the name of "Springfield". I think the Model # was 87 but I am a little fuzzy on that. The firing pin broke later and I took it to a local gunsmith. He said he would order the part and how log it would take. He could tell that I didn't want to wait that long to get back into action and offered me what I had paid for it. I took him up on it. I had decided that I wanted a bolt action (more dependable) and I purchased a Stevens single shot manually cocking rifle new and put the Weaver on it. The single shot taught me alot about fire discipline and marksmanship. Man, that thing was rugged. Simple as a brick.

Man, that old open sighted rascal is the ticket for me in that game. I finished a close third behind Paul and Willie repectively (I struggled with the right verticle string) but the rifle felt right and functioned flawlessly.

Man that is what I learned to shoot with..if I had put a mark on the stock with my barlow knife every time I killed a starling with that gun there would be no stock left. I used to put half a box of 22 Shorts and slaughter those crappy birds with that great gun. Dwight
