I don't know if any of you are familiar with Jeff Cooper. He wrote The Art Of The Rifle and several others, founded Gunsite Ranch. Here are a couple of his quotes.
“One bleeding-heart type asked me in a recent interview if I did not agree that ‘violence begets violence.’ I told him that it is my earnest endeavor to see that it does. I would like very much to ensure—and in some cases I have—that any man who offers violence to his fellow citizen begets a whole lot more in return than he can enjoy.” “There is an enchantment cast upon almost any man when he holds a rifle in his hands.” He died at home on Sept. 25, 2006

"Cooper's Corner" the last page in Gun & Ammo magazine every month was what made my subscription worth it's price. I and the gun world will miss him. He was one of a kind. kirby

The Colonel also wrote the 1st definitive book on the use of the 1911 and it's derivatives, and big bore combat handguns in general back in the late 70's for Peterson Publishing that was my training manual and bible for a number of years. He was truly a man who had "been there and done that", many times over. His name can now be added to a hallowed list that includes Elmer, Major Goerge C. Nonte, Skeeter, Bill Jordan and others. There are good writers today, but I don't think we'll see the like of these individuals again, at least not in my lifetime. I'm afraid that our world has become too PC for individualists like these that stood up when others wouldn't or couldn't.
"May His end have been quiet and with dignity, may His new journey be swift and gentle, and may His destination be as peaceful and rewarding as He so richly deserves."

Gee, another one of those great "gun guys" is gone - sad.
When I first got interested in shooting in my early teens, I subscribed to Guns and Ammo. "Cooper On Handguns" was what I turned to first.
A few years later, I saved up and bought a new Mk IV Series 70 due to his influence.
Loved single action autos.
Never had much use for double action autos "a solution to a problem that doesn't exist".
A handgun man that loved rifles.
One of the fathers of practical shooting.
Served his country in the Marines.
A good writer.
It seems, a life lived well.

I can only echo what Danny said. A true Giant int he shooting world. He and Elmer Keith were a huge influence on me as well. There would not be USPSA or IPSC as we know it today if not for Jeff Cooper.
